NEWS FROM LEWIS & COOPERGourmet store celebrates first successful yearA WEEK of celebrations is marking the first anniversary of a fine food firm’s new store in the region.
On Saturday (15th May), ITV Tyne Tees presenter Pam Royle returned to Lewis & Cooper’s outlet in Yarm to help cut a birthday cake marking a great first year at the store she formally opened in 2009.
Store manager Sue Emmerson said: “It felt like a bit of a brave move, opening a new High Street store in the midst of a recession, but we’ve been very much rewarded by loyal customers old and new.
"We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone back this week to help celebrate our first successful year here.
We’d also like to encourage people who may be put off making the journey to Yarm because of the closure of the flood-damaged bridge at Leven Bank to persevere: the alternative routes really don’t add much to your journey."
Lewis & Cooper chairman, Dr David Gearey, added: "We’ve been delighted with how shoppers in and around Yarm have embraced our new store – it’s a great testament to the first-class service provided by Sue and her team."
To mark the anniversary, staff and visiting reps will host tastings of snacks, preserves, chocolates, cheeses and smoked salmon until Sunday 23rd May.Last year’s shop opening at 109 High Street marked a significant investment by the firm in Yarm. It had previously operated a smaller outlet within Strickland & Holt’s department store in the town.
Striving to offer what the supermarkets cannot, the new premises have continued L&C’s successful formula, with an extensive range of delicatessen items and dried goods, as well as wonderful traditional sweets which Yarm customers are regularly praising for bringing back fond memories.
All these are alongside the range of international foods and wines familiar to Lewis & Cooper customers, and the lines – many of them exclusive to the company – that are sourced locally or made in the firm’s own kitchens: cheeses from the Dales, York hams, cooked meats and coffees freshly-roasted at its sister Northallerton store.
